What is Shamanism?
Shamanism holds a world view that everything is alive and has spirit and that compassionate helping spirits are available in alternate realities to interact in healing ways with earth, her creatures and the balance and health of all creation.
What are alternate realities?
Shamanism recognizes alternate reality as containing three realms – that of the upper world of spirit, the middle world of creation and the lower world of shadows. Within these realms of being there also flows all time and no time, dimensions of past and future become travelable with guiding spirits who inhabit the limitlessness of infinity.
What is a Shaman?
A Shaman is one who travels between alternate realities discovering healing wisdom and providing spiritual healing at the direction and with the help of compassionate helping spirits and guides.
What do Shamans do?
To Shamans, all illness is spiritual illness, whether in a person, a community, or the world. Finding the root cause, retrieving healing information and restoring healthy, original energies through shamanic journeying, practices and ceremony are the basics of Shamanic work.
What is Journeying?
Journeying is the process of connecting with spirit in the spirit realms. Shamans will often use drums or rattles, toning or dancing to enter into an altered state in order to travel to other realms for healing information and work. Spirit guides and power animals accompany, protect and guide the shaman during these journeys, as well as helping retrieve healthy lost energies, or soul parts, and illuminate root causes for the journeying shaman. Dreaming is a form of unintentional journeying we all do. The Shaman journeys intentionally.
