Three Ki’s To Women’s Health

As I happily bought my signature purple Alzheimer’s Lokai bracelet the other day

I was reflecting that the earlier pink ones I had seen (the original color is white or clear) must have been for Breast Cancer Awareness (they are). A lovely acquaintance of mine, Patty Franchi Flaherty, founded a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating research for eradicating Ovarian Cancer called Ovations for the Cure and I was reflecting on her chosen color of teal thinking that the next Lokai color should be teal. Lokai, by the way, is Hawaiian and means unity. The bracelets contain elemental substance from one of the highest and lowest points on earth to help us create balance.

As I was pondering the luminously colored lokai strands and the diseases we are supporting with their sale I had one of those aha moments.

There is a lot of talk today around “Consciousness”

We embrace it in new practices such as “mindfulness” and “awareness”; in yoga and in books such as Eckhart Tolle’s Practicing the Power of Now and Ram Dass’ Be Here Now. It is a movement borne of the need to become conscious of the unconscious; to understand and work with the circuits and paths of the brain used in the automatic processing of parts of its environment and responses. We are efficiently coded so that we need to expend less and less time on those functions that have become mapped in our brains. As a result, we are not paying attention, we are on automatic pilot, so that we can use our conscious, controlled response mechanisms for those items we choose. This is all well and good as long as our automatic responses are healthy. Reiki for Alzheimer’s – A Personal Look

Bringing Reiki to different stages of Alzheimer’s:

Recently I was hired to bring Reiki to a late-stage dementia client by their family member. I have also given a session to an early stage person and their care partner. In addition to working with my recently passed mother, these experiences have brought a new dimension to my dedication to Reiki for Alzheimer’s. The early stage clients had just began a drug trial and it was difficult for them to assess what was attributable to each when more than one new experience was introduced, so we have decided to hold on continuing with Reiki until they are more settled. These brave souls are on an incredible journey and I respect their process, however this early-stage session raised observations and possibilites I would like to pursue further. Then there is my own path, where it is, and where it may lead, that I work with for myself each day through self-Reiki. I will explain.

Contrarily, they seem extra uncommon in their intensity and discomfort. I remember when I was younger being able to push through and sort of ignore the cold – maybe dose up for a day or two on my favorite decongestant. But recently the colds seem more virulent, potent, and energy draining. Not only that, they hang around for weeks before they go away and your energy returns to normal. I don’t get them much, but when that mate of mine comes down with a bad one, if I don’t get out of the way quickly enough I am going to be challenged. Two weeks ago he caught a good one. This past week I began to get a very strong onset of symptoms.
