What is Distance Reiki Healing?
“Distance” Reiki healing involves opening to and realizing the oneness of existence through the practice of Reiki as learned in Level Two training, which allows the practitioner to bring the experience of a Reiki session to others who are not present, to open the flow of Reiki to present and past situations as well as to future situations for the highest and best healing good, and allows Reiki to flow across dimensions. Because in fact, it already does. It is a new perspective and understanding of the spiritual energy that is all around us learned during Reiki Level II training, and the reason I use quotation marks around the word “distant”.
What does that mean for you as a Reiki client? It means the healing practice of Reiki is always available no matter what the circumstance. “Distance” Reiki is only done with within the confines of the loving healing direction of the Reiki trained person within strict protocols taught about its use. Reiki practitioners experienced in this practice can offer you the wonderful benefits of Reiki treatment anytime, anywhere, with beneficial effect and healing responses.
In a less mystical sense, we all use our own energy in a “distance” fashion every day. Have you noticed that when you ask someone for help to find something or figure something out, often as soon as the other person responds and brings their presence to you, you find it or figure it out. The other person has moved their energy with the positive intent to assist you and often you are assisted by only that and by no other thing that they do. This is energy in motion and we live with it and use it every day. The Reiki practitioner, however, is working with the flow of Reiki energy, not personal energy, and using intention and training to allow for a greater flow of Reiki for beneficial results.
A brief note here – as with in-person Reiki treatment, the practitioner does not seek to create a specific outcome. Reiki is always offered without conditions and moves toward the undirected intention of the highest and best healing good, whatever that may be. This is why there is no harm in Reiki practice, no manipulation and no personal power involved.
Reiki Practice is a Personal Practice
While hailed as a wonderful, relaxing tool for promoting health for others, learning to practice Reiki is primarily a personal practice – a vehicle for the healing, spiritual growth and development of the practitioner; an entryway into deeper connection with oneself, to expressing compassion in the world and to an expanding understanding of the universe.
Just for Today
I will not worry
I will not be angry
I will work honestly
I will be kind to all living things
This personal path deepens and opens the practitioner as a channel for the flow of Reiki to others.
As a practitioner, I am no exception to this process of growth and healing, and recently I was challenged with an ongoing health issue. Whether it was the colder than normal winter that took its toll, or the emotionally charged death of my mother from Alzheimer’s disease, it all culminated in a surprising and debilitating summer flu which turned into an infection. After 5 weeks, 3 prescriptions and 3 doctor’s appointments – during which time I did self-Reiki, but seemingly to not much avail, I made a quantum shift in self-healing.
Using Distance Reiki Personally
I used distance Reiki for myself by offering Reiki to myself as if I were my own client. I used a “Reiki Healing Candle” as the means of accomplishing this. I had been reading and exploring new ways of using Reiki (my challenge for summer growth!) and the use of a Reiki Healing Candle intrigued me. I followed the directions and prepared the candle, Reikied it for my highest healing good and created a healing crystal grid into the center of which I placed my candle. I followed directions on honoring this healing process by learning how to care for the candle. I watched the Reiki candle as it burned continuously for three days, holding me in healing light and Reiki love, and then buried the remains of the burned down candle in a specially prepared place in my garden.
The ever burning flame was a precious reminder that spirit was watching over me for my highest and best healing good, and a physical reminder that healing was going on for me continuously and effortlessly through the Reiki I had sent to myself as I slept, ate and went about my daily tasks . The burial was a poignant reminder that gaia recycles all our sludge into new life. That the left over burned down remains are dissolved and become nurturing ground for the birth of new abundance.
Results of using personal “Distance” Reiki
In three days I was completely free of my dis-ease with no trailing effects such as coughs or even mild congestion; and this was after 5 weeks of battle using doctors and antibiotics! My personal healing process is continuing with another revelation that followed on the heals of this experience that I will write about in another article. The effects of the healing candle and now a Reiki healing box that I am using to continue the distance work for both myself and others who are part of my healing list, are those of empowering me to release and trust and heal in a new ways. In addition to practicing self-Reiki and meditation, performing Reiki healing work for me the same way I offer distance work for others has proved to be an amazing journey of powerful self-healing. It has shifted how I see me in the world. The body I inhabit sometimes needs to be the object of my distance Reiki practice. Stepping outside of me to heal myself is another beautiful gift of learning to practice Reiki as a personal practice.
