A Simple Ceremony to clear Past, Present and Future
We make many promises, vows and contracts during our lives, consciously and unconsciously. We sometimes inherit family vows, either kept or broken, unknowingly.
Clearing the spiritual palette of old promises no longer needed or broken vows causing confusion can aide us in setting clear goals and following our chosen paths unhindered.
Ceremony is the way we close out the old and set intention for the new.
- You do not need to be aware of all the possible broken promises, unfulfilled vows or inherited contracts to clear them.
- A simple ceremony involving forgiveness and release will suffice.
As with all ceremony, there is a beginning, the work, and the closing.
Establishing space for your Ceremony:
Where will this take place – inside or out?
Perhaps you already have a favorite meditation spot or personal altar for sacred work. Perhaps you have a favorite garden spot. Look to your outdoor and indoor areas and see what draws you. If you dowse, go ahead and dowse on any of these elements. If not, trust your intuition and go with it.
Preparing your Space
If outside, gather some objects from nature to surround you – a rock, piece of wood or other items you find laying about you – use several items and create a circle – these focus your energy and intention for your space. If indoors, favorite plants and crystals, pictures, artwork or pieces with spiritual or life significance.
Other items to include
- A bowl of salted water
- a Fire source such as a candle or a firebowl
- Some tobacco or sweet oils or herbs
- Paper and pen
- A singing bowl or bell, drum and or rattles, whatever you have on had to make sound
The most important thing is to have what you may need at hand so that you can go with the flow of the moment once you are in ceremony.
Ceremony
To begin light a candle or ring a bell or sound a bowl. Ask your guides and spirits to come be in attendance with you and help you do this work. State your intention to release all past promises known and unknown that no longer serve you or your loved ones and any broken vows in your life and in your ancestral line leading up to this life by saying : Please release me and my ancestral line from all promises and vows that are no longer relevant or healthy for them, my family, myself, my children and my children’s children going forward. Restore balance and bring wholeness to my family and to me through this ceremony today.
Take a moment to connect with your ancestors and guides in quietness and meditation – you may use a drum, music or sit in stillness.
If you receive any impressions or information you may want to write these down, or hold them in your heart as you complete the work. You may receive a sense of connection with certain ancestors, known or unknown, who have come to bear witness to or be released through your work. Welcome them to your space and honor them with some tobacco, sweet oil or herbs.
Ask Forgiveness
Ask forgiveness from all who have been affected by unfulfilled vows and promises made by those throughout your line and in your own life by saying: Please forgive me and all my ancestors for any and all unkept and broken promises and vows going back seven generations and beyond through my bloodlines. You may repeat the Ho’ opono opono prayer for healing three times if you are familiar with it and like to use it. “I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you.” Say it on behalf of your entire line. Ring a bell, sound a bowl, rattle or drum to release the energy of trapped anger, hurt and disappointment from broken promises carried through the generations. These energies carry on into our lives as curses and this will release and relieve the curses carried forward.
Repeat: “May the negative energies contained within these events be transformed into forgiveness, love and light. May all spirits trapped in despair and anger be released.” Three times.
Sprinkle the salt water representing the tears shed into the earth or around your space, releasing the energies of pain and anger into Mother Earth for healing. If you have written anything down, burn or shred or bury it.
Forgive
Now forgive all your ancestors relatives, spouses and friends who have affected your life and the lives of others through unkept promises and broken vows.
Repeat three times: I forgive and release all those who have poured unfulfillment, pain and curses into my life through broken promises and vows. I release all malice, anger and pain, realized and unrealized in my life through these broken promises. May the negative energies within these broken promises be transformed into love and light.
Again, if you have written anything down, burn or shred or bury it. If you bury it plant a beautiful plant of forgiveness over it or mark its spot with a healing stone.
Closing the Ceremony
Celebrate: Now do what do you feel like doing to celebrate this personal release – dance, sing, drum sound the bowls make a joyful noise and claim your release.
Give thanks: Then close the space by thanking your spirits and guides, thanking and honoring your ancestors and releasing them all back to their spaces. Offer up a special thank offering of smoke, incense, oils or tobacco, sound the drum or bowl, blow out the candle and close the space.
Set a closing intention to let the work of this ceremony bear healing fruit in your life.
