What can I expect when I get a Reiki treatment?
A commonly asked question. There are several possible answers –
Some people have no perception of any kind during a Reiki session, others have positive results – peacefulness, relaxation, lightness, and some may feel a sense of disturbance – a feeling of being unsettled. Sometimes there can be later results of either of the last two possibilities – Reiki is energy and you can continue to experience it working in your life after your session is complete.
Feeling disturbed and unsettled is the most challenging result
To understand it, and what that result may mean in your life, we must look at the process of healing. Healing is as individual as each of us with our unique issues and dis-eases, accumulated through the responses of our bodies, spirits and minds as we travel our paths in life. The body expresses our stored experiences in physical form, the mind and spirit hold them in emotional and ethereal form.
A good way to look at Reiki healing is through the analogy of a stream.
That lovely little stream may be slipping along in what appears to be perfect clarity. But if you stir the waters, the mud and silt of our stored experiences will rise from the stream beds of our lives to be cleansed and carried away. During a Reiki session the waters will be stirred, much like pouring fresh water into standing water – think energy – and things will be dislodged and brought to the surface to be carried away. Many times this is an extremely releasing, reviving and energizing experience. Most clients experience deep relaxation, lightness, improved sleep and peacefulness.
Sometimes the dislodging process can be a little unsettling. One time a woman asked me if Reiki would help with sciatica. As I gave her Reiki, she remarked that each place I put my hand (along her spine) at first felt worse, and then better. At the end of her session she was able to bend over without pain. The brief discomfort she felt were the toxins rising to the surface, her “feeling better” were those toxins being released out of her system. Discomfort may be physical, mental or emotional based on the healing process taking place.
The muck of our lives cannot be cleared without disturbing the waters
Because this takes place in a healing space during a Reiki session, you can trust that this is the right time and place if it occurs for you. Remember you have come for healing, and that healing is a process that takes place over time.
When you have no perception or sense of anything happening at all during a Reiki session
There are places and spaces in our lives that may need more time to respond to the flow of Reiki energy. That does not mean you have not received what you need. Please talk with your practitioner honestly after your session, record the events and your thoughts of the next few days in a journal and pay attention to what happens in your life after a Reiki session. Should you experience any unsettling results, contact your practitioner. They will help you understand and work with the healing process. Reiki will always lead you to the path of lightness, healing and clarity.
Another important note in the process of healing with Reiki
With Reiki energy, there is no need to delve deeply into the muck. It does not need to be analyzed or its contents defined. Reiki promotes a healing release of denser energies and toxins that can result in increased clarity for living your life to the fullest. There may be changes that you make in your life based on your new clarity and peacefulness that may well be those needed to break old patterns and behaviors and start on a clearer, lighter path. This is why we often suggest several sessions to support and assist you in incorporating your own healing into you life.
Just know that you have received Reiki energy and that it has worked for your highest and best healing good!
