After a rather intense week of fighting off a cold, pushing forward on publishing my book, and connecting with the griefs, sorrows, angers and fears of an absolutely amazing community of Alzheimer’s caregivers, I finally managed to give myself a full Reiki treatment upon waking in the morning. Due to trying to fight off this cold as I prepare to fly to warmth and the love of my baby granddaughter on the west coast next week, I had been concentrating on my head, nose and throat in my morning Reiki sessions. A rather overwhelming and unavoidable long-term project erupted out of nowhere, way too close to its deadline date. What should have been carefully undertaken over several months had become a nightmare of pressured, intricate, exact questionnaires, forms, programs and policies, navigated through the foreign land of an unfamiliar and bulky piece of software for which there was no training but a series of “help me” phone calls. With my usual fervour, I attacked the problem, knowing I have every resource and the answers are there (or I could create them!) After two and a half weeks of feverish work my reserves began to give out. I had not planned for this long an assault upon my time and resources. My frustration level was growing. This thing had become an evil task master in my life. I ate and slept and breathed it every day.

Contrarily, they seem extra uncommon in their intensity and discomfort. I remember when I was younger being able to push through and sort of ignore the cold – maybe dose up for a day or two on my favorite decongestant. But recently the colds seem more virulent, potent, and energy draining. Not only that, they hang around for weeks before they go away and your energy returns to normal. I don’t get them much, but when that mate of mine comes down with a bad one, if I don’t get out of the way quickly enough I am going to be challenged. Two weeks ago he caught a good one. This past week I began to get a very strong onset of symptoms.
